Millie accidentally accepts an invitation to be a bridesmaid at an American Wedding in New York. It's Millie’s worst nightmare. Not only has she slept with the groom, but her ex boyfriend (the one that got away) is the best man and he’s married.
As her friend, Kristen, gets ready for the best day of her life, Millie gears up for the worst week of hers.
I fell into this novel head first. Anna's writing was so lovely that I was instantly absorbed. It was very entertaining with some great humour and lots of drama!
We are first introduced to Millie whilst she is in the UK, when she receives a fridge magnet that invites her to a wedding in the USA, of her old university friend Kristen. Not only is she invited she has also been asked to be one of the bridesmaids. OK, seems simple enough, right? No, cue the dragon Maid of Honour Colette, who seems to take the fun out of everything and talk about her own wedding at every opportunity. Not only this but Millie previously had a one night stand with the groom! There are lots of things telling Millie that she shouldn't go, especially as something happened the last time she was there that she had buried deep within her. But the allure of America and the shopping is just too tempting, so she soon finds herself arriving in the US, hoping that the other bridesmaids are a lot nicer and more fun than Colette! She is also hoping that the past will stay very firmly in the past!
This story really did have me in stitches, it was so funny, especially the scene with the bum pincher!! A seriously Laugh-out-loud moment!!
Millie was a great main character and I really liked her. It's great when you really like the main protagonist as it makes the story go by quicker, with you wanting to find out what's going to happen and wanting to be a part of their story. Millie is a great party girl and would definitely be the type of person I would like to go out with on a night out!
I also loved Tara, one of the bridesmaids that Millie meets. Not at all like the rude stuck-up Colette; which we soon discover the reason for! There were some great scenes with Millie and Tara and I think they partly made the novel.
It was really interesting reading about the slight differences in American wedding traditions- i.e. the garter! I didn't actually realise they had different traditions, so this was a little eye opener for me.
Although a funny novel, there was also some really sad parts that made my heart bleed and I became extremely angry with one of the characters. All of the main wedding guests seemed to be harbouring secrets as well!
A great chic-lit book that I definitely recommend!
